Anxiety in our life: why and what to do
Anxiety is a normal and necessary part of our life. Evolution has wired us with a protective response to danger—when we feel threatened, adrenaline kicks in, preparing us to "fight or flight." That’s what we call anxiety. Working with anxiety can happen on different levels: Thoughts • What am I afraid of? • Is this really the case? • If it happens, what will I do? Physical • Breathing practices • Meditation • Movement (walking, yoga, exercise) Action • Recognize the anxiety and ask: What can I do? • Keep an emotion & success journal • Accept your strengths and weaknesses • Rest, distract yourself with pleasant things, break tough tasks into smaller steps • Find a hobby you love Prevention • Boost self-esteem • Take responsibility for your life Anxiety causes stress on physical, emotional, mental, and social levels—it’s often a symptom of stress or burnout.
